What are nasolabial folds?

Nasolabial folds run from either side of the nose to the corners of the mouth. There are a number of factors which make us more likely to develop prominent nasolabial folds during our life time.
Risk factors for their development include age, sun exposure, smoking & rapid weight loss.
These skin folds can be deep in nature and can be treated exceptionally well using dermal filler. The filler of choice would be one that is hyaluronic acid based and following injection, results last up to 12-months.

As the filler is being injected beneath the skin, it acts like a sponge to draw water molecules to it – adding volume to the area. Carefully placing filler along a fold helps mask it. Typically 1ml of dermal filler should be sufficient to treat both sides.
With nasolabial folds, filler can be injected using a cannula (a blunt needle) or a smaller sharp needle. Both techniques provide equally as effective results and it is largely down to practitioner preference which technique gets used. With a cannula, you would require less injection points which means less redness and bruising.

The Procedure

After applying some topical numbing cream over the area, a needle is entered from the corner of the mouth pointing towards the nose – along the nasolabial fold. Dermal filler is then injected as the needle is being withdrawn.
Once the dermal filler has been placed, it is gently massaged to ensure even distribution. The procedure takes around 10-15mins to perform and results are instant.
Expect the finished look to last up to 12-months on average.
