What are anti-wrinkle injections?
Anti-wrinkle injections work by temporarily relaxing the muscle it is injected in. By doing so, the overlying skin breaks free of tension caused by muscle contraction, causing wrinkles to soften and fade.
Through normal everyday facial expression, the muscles of the face contract and create ‘dynamic’ lines. Over time this can lead to the formation of fine lines and wrinkles that are present at rest, known as ‘static’ lines.

Muscle relaxing injections block the message from the brain instructing the targeting muscle to contract – leading to a temporary relaxation of the muscle. This results in the elimination or softening of dynamic lines, which can over time reduce or prevent static lines that form at rest. The injections can also be used to treat overactive muscles- with the ‘gummy smile’ treatment for instance, the injections can help drop the lip line to produce a more aesthetically pleasing smile.
Anti-wrinkle injections can thus be used to smoothen the appearance of dynamic lines and prevent/reduce the appearance of static lines in the forehead, frown, crows feet, chin crease and under-eye area. They can also be used to create a ‘brow’ lift as well as be used to relax overactive muscles such as those that contribute to excessive upper lip lifting known as a ‘gummy smile’.

On average, the effects of botulinum toxin injections last for three months. For some people the effects might last longer.
There is zero downtime, you can get on with your day straight away.
We generally advice no make-up for three hours after the procedure to allow enough time for the skin over the injection sites to close completely.
The treatment is quick, taking a total of 5-10 mins
For botulinum toxin injections, we use a very small needle and so pain is minimal. Majority of patients do not require any numbing cream.
Botulinum toxin takes two weeks to take maximal effect. We usually book a review in two weeks, to see if a top-up is required.
